Electrical fault finding in Inverness
Methodical investigation for tripping circuits, faulty sockets, lighting problems and unexplained loss of power in homes and businesses.
Find the cause before choosing the repair
A fault can sit in a fitting, connected equipment or the fixed wiring. Caledonia Electrical Highlands Ltd uses inspection and testing to investigate the symptoms, explain the findings and discuss a suitable repair. We help with both persistent problems and faults that come and go.
Information that helps us investigate
Tell us what stopped working, when the problem started and whether anything changed just beforehand. Useful details include recent building work, water ingress, new equipment and whether the fault happens at particular times. You do not need to identify the electrical cause yourself.
If it is safe to photograph the outside of the consumer unit or the affected fitting, that can help us understand the enquiry. Leave covers in place and do not touch damaged equipment or exposed wiring.
What to expect from a fault-finding visit
We discuss the symptoms, inspect the relevant parts of the installation and carry out appropriate tests. Some checks need circuits to be switched off. Let us know about equipment that must stay available so that the work can be planned.
When the cause is identified, we explain the repair options. An intermittent fault can take longer to reproduce, so the symptoms and timing you have noticed are useful. Any further work or replacement equipment is discussed before the scope is extended.
Urgent fault or planned investigation?
For an urgent electrical problem, use our 24/7 emergency electrician service and call 07887 494968. Email enquiries are for planned work and are not an emergency response channel. If there is smoke, fire or immediate danger, leave the property and call 999.
Repair, inspection or upgrade?
A specific fault-finding visit investigates a reported problem. An EICR assesses the condition of the installation within an agreed scope. A consumer unit upgrade or rewire may be appropriate in some cases, but it should follow an assessment of what the property actually needs.
We cover Inverness and arrange electrical repairs across the Scottish Highlands. Include your postcode when you contact us.

Your questions, answered
Why does my RCD keep tripping?
There are several possible causes, including an appliance fault, moisture or a problem in the wiring. Testing is needed to identify the cause; the tripping device should not simply be bypassed.
Can you investigate an intermittent fault?
Yes. Tell us when it happens and what was in use at the time. Reproducing the fault and testing the affected parts of the installation can take more than one stage.
Can you repair a faulty socket or light?
We carry out domestic repairs as well as larger work. We first check the cause and condition, then discuss repair or replacement as appropriate.
What should I do if there is a burning smell?
Call for urgent help and keep away from damaged equipment. If there is smoke, fire or immediate danger, leave the property and call 999. Do not rely on an email enquiry for an emergency.
