Portable appliance testing for your premises
We provide PAT testing in Inverness and the Scottish Highlands for businesses and landlords. It covers the inspection and, where appropriate, electrical testing of portable electrical equipment. Tell us what equipment is involved and how the premises are used so we can agree a useful scope.
PAT testing and an EICR cover different things
An Electrical Installation Condition Report assesses the fixed electrical installation, including its circuits and distribution equipment. PAT testing concerns electrical equipment and appliances. One does not replace the other.
If you need both, tell us when booking. For furnished properties, shared workplaces or several premises, list the equipment and any existing reports so the complete job can be discussed.
How often should equipment be checked?
There is no single annual PAT testing interval that applies to every appliance. The type of equipment, where it is used and the risks matter. Visual checks are part of maintaining equipment, and testing is used where appropriate. HSE guidance on portable appliance testing explains this approach.
Tell us about any insurer, letting agent, customer or site requirements alongside previous test records. These help establish the work you need without assuming every item requires the same treatment.
Prepare for a visit
Send your postcode, the type of premises, an approximate item count and any deadline. Include an equipment list if you have one. Agree what identification and test records are required, and make the equipment accessible at the arranged time.
Point out equipment that supports essential operations before work starts. If an item shows damage or a fault, tell us so it can be assessed and the next steps discussed.
Electrical support beyond the appliances
For socket faults, distribution-board issues or installation changes, see our commercial electrical services and electrical fault finding. Landlords can also ask about EICRs and remedial electrical work.
