House rewiring in Inverness & the Highlands
Full and partial rewires for homes, renovations and extensions, with the scope, disruption and finishing work discussed before we start.
Plan the wiring around how you live
A rewire is a chance to put sockets, lighting and power where you actually need them. Caledonia Electrical Highlands Ltd helps homeowners plan electrical work around the property, its condition and the way each room will be used. We discuss access and priorities before agreeing the installation.
For a room-by-room starting point, read our guide to planning electrics during a renovation, including furniture layouts, lighting preferences and what to send with your enquiry.
Does your house need a rewire?
The age of a house alone does not decide whether its wiring needs replacing. Existing test results, cable condition, previous alterations and the work you are planning all matter. If the condition is unclear, an EICR and electrical inspection can help establish what needs attention.
Repeated tripping or a damaged fitting may need a targeted repair rather than a whole-house rewire. Our electrical fault-finding service is a useful starting point when there is a particular problem to investigate.
Buying a property with older electrics? Read our homebuyer electrical-checks guide before deciding which repairs or improvements to include.
What we agree before work begins
- Which rooms and circuits are included, and the sockets, lights and controls you want.
- Access beneath floors, above ceilings and along proposed cable routes.
- Whether the property will be occupied, and how power interruptions will be managed.
- Any consumer unit replacement or other associated work.
- What making good and decoration are included, and what needs to be arranged separately.
Quoting for a house rewire
The cost depends on the size of the property, circuit layout, number of fittings, access and agreed finish. An empty renovation and an occupied home can require very different arrangements. We confirm the scope before quoting, so you can compare what is actually included.
Send your postcode, approximate property size and a short outline of your plans. If you have floor plans or an existing electrical report, mention those in your enquiry. We work in Inverness and travel across the Highlands by arrangement.
Your questions, answered
Can you rewire a house while someone lives there?
Tell us at the enquiry stage if the property will remain occupied. We will discuss access, disruption and power interruptions before deciding how the work can be organised.
Does a rewire include plastering and decorating?
The quote should make this clear. Cable routes can affect walls, floors and ceilings, so we agree what making good is included and which finishing work you need to arrange.
Can you replace only part of the wiring?
Where appropriate, yes. The condition of the existing installation and the proposed alterations determine whether a partial rewire is a suitable option.
What paperwork will I receive?
The completed electrical work is inspected and tested, with the appropriate electrical certification for the work carried out. We explain the documentation at handover.
